Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated long ago recognized the value and importance of women who, although they do not qualify for Sorority membership, have a desire to support Zeta’s programming. All over the country there were groups of such women (often mothers, sisters and friends of Zetas) banding together to help Zeta chapters in their community and operating under a variety of names. In 1948 during the administration of national president Lullelia Harrison, the name ‘Amicae’ was adopted and applied to all such groups thereafter. Zeta Amicae assist local chapters with community service projects as well as sponsor projects on their own throughout the year. They also serve as liaisons between Zetas and the larger community, often helping to assure greater participation in and cooperation Zeta-sponsored projects.
Beta Zeta Zeta Chapter's Amicae Auxiliary was chartered on April 27, 1996. Doris McAdams, who worked tirelessly to bring the group to fruition, was their first sponsor. Since that time, they have provided invaluable support to Beta Zeta Zeta Chapter as well as the community. Their signature projects include, Belmont Day at Churchill Downs, an annual health fair, and a fall fundraiser to provide school supplies for area youth.
